CIO President Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Al Amer said that the Organization was elected to representative the Kingdom of Bahrain to lead a working group to develop a fellowship program to train the statisticians Member of the Organization of Islamic Conference. This came in the first meeting of the Statistical Commission and the Organization of Islamic Conference that held in Turkey recently. Al Amer added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been elected as the President of the Statistical Commission, Indonesia as Vice-President of the Commission, and Senegal as Rapporteur of the Commission. The first meeting of the Committee held at the invitation of the Economic and Social Research and Training Center of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Conference.

For his part, the Director General of Statistics of the CIO and the member of the Statistical Commission of the Organization of the Islamic Conference confirmed that there is a strong desire of the member States of the Organization in promoting statistical cooperation between members and coordination among these countries and build strategic alliances with the international community. He said also that the Statistical Commission of the Organization of the Islamic Conference decided to appoint a working group to examine the statistical indicators of the Islamic States Members of the Organization and to develop the standards and the common approaches to these indicators and raise the results to the Commission at the next session. Jordan was elected to lead this group, while Indonesia was elected to lead a working group to develop the Committee strategy vision.

The Director General of Statistics of the CIO noted that representatives of the statistical institutions focused in their final statement on the importance of effective national statistical system in making of policies and development strategies in Member States for being the official supplier of national statistics. The Member States of the Organization of the Islamic Conference has been approved by meeting in Dakar in 2008 to establishment "the Statistical Commission of the Organization of the Islamic Conference " to achieve several goals most important to exchange knowledge and experiences to promote solidarity and cooperation between Member States.

The committee functions to support the production and publishing of statistical data in accordance with the concepts and internationally recognized standards, develop a strategic vision towards an effective statistical systems to identify plans for achieving this vision, encourage the governments of Member States to provide sustainable human and financial resources to develop the statistical capacity, develop the standards and general concepts of statistical indicators and facilitate coordination and cooperation in policy-making in the Member States.
