The Kingdom of Bahrain represented by the CIO, took part in the first meeting and conference of the UN for Geographic Information System, held in Seoul, South Korea from October 23-26.
Bahrain was represented by the Director of GIS at the CIO Dr. Khalid Al Hidan.
Dr. Al Hidan stated that the meeting and conference was very important because it organized by the United Nations, as well as being the first meeting which confirms that the United Nations has recognized the importance of GIS through direct contact with the infrastructure and its direct impact on the economy and development.
Around 90 countries participated in the event represented by over 400 people.
Dr. Al Hidan added that the meeting resulted in several important decisions, where the objectives have been set for the meeting in preparation for implementation and the most important is to support GIS at the global level to participate in development and global economy.
He said also that the most special things during the meeting are the UN representative praised during her lecture about the GIS information base of the Kingdom of Bahrain. In conclusion, Dr. Al Hidan said that the Kingdom of Bahrain will have a large and influential role in this program in cooperation with other nations.
