The GIS Directorate of the CIO issued the Agricultural Survey Atlas, which contains all the maps, statistics and types of agricultural crops in the Kingdom of Bahrain and their area and locations on maps.
The GIS Director of the CIO Dr. Khalid Al Haidan said that Atlas is an important reference for agricultural planning, which comes in a series of achievements, outputs and services provided by the CIO in this field. He explained that the Atlas farm consists of important information such as the total area of agricultural crops, the total of the green area, detailed spaces for each plant species, geographical maps of the location of all plant species, a list of all plant species with the area and general information about the overall health of plants.
Al Haidan added that the Agriculture Atlas is an important step to document the output of the agricultural survey project which was implemented using the techniques of remote sensing by satellite. After a shooting the space image processed by advanced expertise in the GIS Directorate and the result is limited the green areas in the Kingdom and the agricultural crops area.
He added that the agricultural survey by satellite in addition to the accuracy provided, data quality and low cost is characterized by the possibility of completion the survey in record time compared to traditional survey methods.
Dr. Al Haidan said that the main objective of the survey is o determine the types of agricultural crops, area of agricultural and green areas, public health of the plants in the Kingdom and production the geographical maps of agricultural , which is among the objectives of GIS Directorate. He added that since the establishment of the GIS Directorate in 2002 in the new composition of theCIO, it keen to implement projects that reflected positively on the development and serve the citizens and residents.
The GIS Directorate has been able to form an integrated geographic database in the Kingdom contain a lot of data on roads, addresses, buildings, space images and important sites in the Kingdom, and that because of the importance of information that represent largest part of the infrastructure of any country. This Atlas resulted because of the existence rules for advanced geographic data.
He added that the use of remote sensing techniques and modern satellite reflecting the high level reached by the CIO in the field of modern technology types.
He concluded that the great potential owned by the CIO in general and in the field of remote sensing in particular will support the government work. And there are plans to use remote sensing techniques in the field of environmental, geological and other areas in addition to agriculture.
