CIO maintains the shared ICT infrastructure like the legacy systems of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government Data Network. CIO is also the government ICT service provider, CIO offers services like Email, internet, Web-hosting, Smart ID Cards, Public Key Infrastructure etc.,.

Information Security Section works constantly for the development and implementation of Security Standards, Practices, Policies, Projects, solutions and equipments to protect the above mentioned ICT infrastructure and the service delivery channels.

It is well on its way to implement a sophisticated Security Operation Center for its use which in its next phase will be extended to cover other ministries as well.

Apart from these, the section evaluates Security products, empanels security consultants/ vendors and arranges for government-wide Enterprise Agreement for security services and products. Subject to availability of domain experts, CIO also offers guidance for security related issues and consultancy assistance to ministries.

Security section participates actively in all security related events and initiatives of Standards bodies, Professional organizations, Technology vendors and other public and private Agencies.
